Following a disaster, such as fire or flood, people may be temporarily displaced from their accommodation. When impacted persons are not able to arrange their own accommodation, the Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPAC) brokers emergency accommodation with local accommodation providers.
Accommodation brokered would be for one to three nights immediately following a disaster and would likely be booked at very short notice. Accommodation brokered would be paid for at your normal booking rates.
The Department of State Growth (DSG) is supporting DPAC by running a registration process to capture accommodation providers that are willing to make their accommodation available to displaced people if there is an emergency event in their region.
Registrations received will be collated into an Emergency Accommodation Register.
Please note:
- The Emergency Accommodation Register (the register) will be for short-term accommodation (one to three nights) only. Alternative accommodation options will be used for long term temporary accommodation.
- The Department of State Growth (DSG) is compiling and maintaining the register on behalf of DPAC.
- In an emergency event, accommodation providers on the register will be contacted directly by a representative from DPAC or DPAC's delegates/agents that are involved in brokering emergency accommodation.
- Accommodation providers will remain on the register until such time as they withdraw from it. Accommodation providers can withdraw at any time, by emailing ask@business.tas.gov.au
- Accommodation providers will receive an email every six months. The email will present the opportunity to withdraw from the register or update the information previously provided.
- The register seeks to capture information on all rooms the accommodation provider may be willing to offer in an emergency event. DPAC acknowledges that all listed rooms may not be available at the time of an emergency event due to existing bookings the accommodation provider needs to honour.
- To be eligible for the register the accommodation provider must be a business with their own ABN that provides accommodation in Tasmania.
- Accommodation providers with more than one property must complete a separate registration for each.
- The information provided by accommodation providers for the register will contain personal information. The information provided will be used for purposes relating to obtaining short-term, emergency accommodation following an emergency event. Information provided will be managed in accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act 2004.
