The Tasmanian Government is committed to taking practical climate action and collaborating with other levels of government and the community to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions, or lower, from 2030 and increase the resilience of Tasmanian communities to the impacts of the changing climate.
Urban environments and the spaces within them are likely to be exposed to higher temperatures as a result of climate change, which may impact people's health and the ways that people use spaces. The Urban Greening Grants Program aims to build the resilience of urban environments in Tasmania to climate change and make them more comfortable in hotter temperatures, by increasing canopy cover through the planting of climate tolerant trees.
This program offers grants of between $5,000 and $40,000 to eligible applicants to:
- Increase canopy cover and the number of climate tolerant trees in our urban environments
- Increase carbon storage by planting new trees
- Build and improve resilience to the impacts of climate change, by making urban environments more comfortable and livable, especially during periods of high temperatures.
Before proceeding with the application, please ensure that your organisation meets all eligibility criteria in the Guidelines, available at https://www.recfit.tas.gov.au/grants_programs/climate-change/urban-greening-grants/
